SUSPENSION REPAIR
The main part of a car is the suspension, or chassis. The chassis affects the manoeuvres that the car can perform, the smoothness of the ride and stability on the road. Correct diagnostics enables to perform timely suspension repair. Remedying the faults of the car chassis is done quite often, because the entire load of the car falls on this part. But with the help of highly qualified specialists whose price of the services correspond to their quality of work, it is possible to remedy the malfunction and perform wheel alignment quickly.
Diagnostics
The most common type of analysis is an inspection of all external parts, evaluating the connecting components of the suspension for play. In modern car services, a special device is used which enables to perform diagnostics and repair quickly and efficiently, but its cost can be higher.
The car has 2 rotating axles that have a system of levers and shock absorbers that ensure ease of driving on the road. The drive axle directs the engine torque to the wheels; in some cars there may be 2 of them.
Regardless of the type of the vehicle, the front axle consists of:
- tie rods;
- tie rod ends;
- joints;
- bearing units;
- springs;
- car stabilizer links;
- levers;
- CV joint;
- shock absorbers.
Rear-wheel drive is divided into dependent, independent and semi-dependent. The rear suspension consists of:
- spring components;
- CV joints;
- rubbing pads;
- springs;
- reactive rods;
- rear stabilizers.
Springs are responsible for softening impacts when driving on problematic roads. When operating a passenger car, its parts are subject to wear, resulting in unusual knocks and noises. Characteristic knocking sounds indicate that the car is not safe to use. Therefore, car suspension repair and maintenance is a very importantmaintenance service.
Repair
After the analysis, repair is performed, in most cases it consists of a partial replacement of the vehicle’s suspension. But in some cases, a complete suspension replacement may be required. All parts require replacement after time, due to wear or cracks. They may also break before the scheduled time.
The problems with such failures are:
- deformation after a collision or running over an obstacle;
- poor quality parts;
- the vehicle was operated under heavy loads or in poor road conditions.
In these cases, quick analysis is performed, because there is no need to delay remedying the chassis failures; in case of any malfunctions, it is better to undergo technical maintenance in Tallinn at our AUTOMIX car service. For instance, if the ball supports break, the car stops responding to the steering wheel, which will lead to an emergency on the road. An innovation in the field of vehicle maintenance is 3D wheel alignment, which enables to create a three-dimensional image of the wheel geometry. It is advisable to perform this procedure no less than every 20,000 km of the road travelled.
